This object of wooden furniture fulfilled a simple need I had for a trash can. A plastic grocery bag is easily installed between the two corners of the “U” and can then be disposed of. The piece walks a line between environmental consciousness and critique. It eliminates the need to buy trash bags and instead re-uses an overabundance of grocery bags. However, the object’s aesthetic focus subtly calls attention to the individual’s environmental virtue signaling which obscures the radical change needed to address the global climate crisis.
